Requirements / organisational issues

With the coming of multicore processors and the cloud, high performance computing (HPC) is most certainly not a niche area off in a corner of the computing world. Parallelism has become central to the efficient use of resoruces. In this lecture, students will learn the art and practice of parallel HPC. In particular, we will study the follwoing topics:
- Motivation and Introduction
- Parallel Hardware and Parallele Software
- Distributed Memory Programming with MPI
- Shared-Memory Programming with Pthreads
- Shared-Memory Programming with OpenMP
- Parallel Program Development
- Many-core programming with CUDA
